Hailing from Budapest in Hungary, The Unbending Trees specialise in sparse, brutally honest, chamber ballads and slo-core pop. Kristof Hajos (vocals, words) was a friar in a monastery at the age of 18, but was thrown out. Havasi (piano) is a revered Hungarian classical pianist who graduated at the Hungarian Music Academy. Between them they conjured up a raw and poetic collection of half-spoken, half-sung songs that make up their debut album, Chemically Happy (Is The New Sad). Tracey Thorn duets on Overture, and later recorded You Are A Lover on her own album Love and Its Opposite.

'Absolutely the right thing to be listening to surrounded by autumn darkness. Shades of Red House Painters, Paolo Conte and The Czars, but much more besides.' PETE PAPHIDES, THE TIMES
